This controlled substance prescribers course covers a wide range of topics that meet Utah’s physician licensure requirements including: 

  • Understanding the medicine to decrease opioid prescribing, opioid-related overdoses, and death
  • Identifying methods for appropriate alternatives to opioids based on patient health situations
  • Minimizing the potential for patients with history of substance abuse to misuse opioids
  • Counseling patients and caregivers about safely using ER/LA opioid analgesics.

Course Description

This one-hour, virtual course is designed to improve physicians’ competence with identifying and addressing the warning signs and risk factors associated with physician burnout, depression, and suicide.

Practitioners will learn how to recognize and respond to suicide risk compassionately and effectively, how to mitigate the risk of suicidal ideation, ways to minimize burnout, and strategies to promote self-care.
